In the morning, a guide and mountain support crew will arrive at your hotel. First, they will meet you and hold a quick briefing. Afterwards, travel by vehicle to Kilimanjaro National Park’s northern entrance, Nalemuru Gate (2,020 m).

Once at the gate, complete permit formalities and register with the search and rescue service. Then, begin trekking toward Simba Camp (2,625 m). Along the way, pass through lush coniferous forest on Kilimanjaro’s northern slope. Be sure to maintain a comfortable pace and avoid rushing, so your body can adjust gradually.

Upon arrival at camp, the professional crew will set up tents and prepare dinner. Since this is your first day at altitude, follow these important recommendations: abstain from alcohol and caffeine, drink over 4 liters of water frequently, and take a Diamox pill to reduce altitude sickness. Additionally, most climbers take Diamox in the morning before ascending. At night, expect possible headaches or discomfort as your body acclimatizes. Overall, listen to your body, rest when needed, and gradually adapt to the high altitude for a safe and successful trek.

Pay attention to your own body and tell your guide if you start feeling any symptoms of altitude sickness. 𝐋𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡; 𝐃𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐕𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍: 2,020 m to 2,625 m 𝐇𝐈𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄: 3-4 hours 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄: 8 km 𝐃𝐈𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐔𝐋𝐓𝐘: Low 𝐇𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐓: Rainforest

Early in the morning after breakfast, the group will depart from Simba Camp to start trekking towards your second high altitude camp: Kikilewa Camp (3,630 m) where you can see Kibo Volcano at its finest (barring cloudy weather).

Ascend higher into alpine desert terrain, where vegetation thins and panoramic views expand. Along the way, spot rare plants and enjoy dramatic scenery. Then, reach Kikelewa Camp and prepare for the challenging summit attempt. Overnight in tents.

Additionally, the acclimatization hike is an easy trek with slight altitude gain. Importantly, take these hikes seriously. They help your body adjust, increase your chances of summiting Kilimanjaro, and reduce risks of altitude sickness. Overall, following acclimatization hikes ensures a safer and more successful climb.
